What does the freshwater clam, Corbicula largillierti, have to tell us about chlorothalonil effects?

چکیده

Chlorothalonil (CLT) is a broad spectrum, and non-systemic fungicide applied in foliar structures to prevent treat pathogens. This compound reaches aquatic environments affects the biota. In this context, main goal of study was assess effects CLT at biochemical, tissular, individual levels biological organization using invasive bivalve Corbicula largillierti as bioindicator species. Clams were exposed different sublethal concentrations (0, 10, 20 50 µg. L?1 CLT) for 96 h. At biochemical level, enzymatic activity (Glutathione-s-Transferase, Catalase, Acetyl-, Butiryl- Carboxyl-esterases) lipid peroxidation measured gills visceral mass. Also, digestive gland morphometry through quantitative histological indexes registered tissular level. Finally, filtering burial behavior level measured. highest concentration, most significant changes observed (except butyrylcholinesterase), morphometry. It also increases latency time burial. Most biomarkers assessed showed responses under exposure. Therefore, taking into account that C. affected by CLT, it can be expected other species could potential risk if present freshwater systems.

What Does the Sky Tell Us about the Camera?

As the main observed illuminant outdoors, the sky is a rich source of information about the scene. However, it is yet to be fully explored in computer vision because its appearance depends on the sun position, weather conditions, photometric and geometric parameters of the camera, and the location of capture. In this paper, we propose the use of a physically-based sky model to analyze the infor...

What Does the Frame Problem Tell us About Moral Normativity?

Within cognitive science, mental processing is often construed as computation over mental representations—i.e., as the manipulation and transformation of mental representations in accordance with rules of the kind expressible in the form of a computer program. This foundational approach has encountered a long-standing, persistently recalcitrant, problem often called the frame problem; it is som...

What does mathoverflow tell us about the production of mathematics?

The highest level of mathematics research is traditionally seen as a solitary activity. Yet new innovations by mathematicians themselves are starting to harness the power of social computation to create new modes of mathematical production. We study the effectiveness of one such system, and make proposals for enhancement, drawing on AI and computer based mathematics. We analyse the content of a...

What does the brain tell us about abstract art?

In this essay I focus on the question of why we are attracted to abstract art (perhaps more accurately, non-representational or object-free art). After elaborating on the processing of visual art in general and abstract art in particular, I discuss recent data from neuroscience and behavioral studies related to abstract art. I conclude with several speculations concerning our apparent appeal to...

What does electrophoretic variation tell us about protein variation?

Before the introduction of DNA sequencing methods into population genetics by Kreitman (1983), the major source of information about genetic variation among organisms in natural populations came from electrophoretic studies of proteins. The amount of information acquired during 25 years of major electrophoretic activity is staggering and, for purely technical reasons, is likely to remain orders...
